Q1. There are many potential causes for distorted color output from the ADV7180.
Could you share a picture of the color output.
Firstly could you please read the registers 0x10 to 0x13 when the ADV7180 is showing this issue. Could you please post the results here.
Secondly I advise placing an oscilloscope probe on the crystal output. The crystal should be oscillating at 28.63636 MHz. Check if placing an oscilloscope probe on the crystal output makes the color quality better/worse.
Thirdly I advise forcing the ADV7180 into free-run mode.
- Connect analog video source.
- Run recommended ADI scripts.
- Set the DEF_VAL_EN bit high (User map register 0xC0 [0]).
- The ADV7180 should now ignore the analog video input and output a blue screen image.
- If the issue is still present then you know the issue is with the digital core, pixel port transmission or the SOC.
- If the issue is not present in free-run mode then you know the issue is with the camera, cabling, input network or analog front end of the ADV7180.
- Note you can also change the color of the output image using the DEF_Y and DEF_C registers see Color Controls section of the ADV7180 datasheet.
Q2. The crystal on the ADV7180 evaluation board is a Golledge MA01377 Quartz Crystal. Details on this crystal are below.
